The new branch of Train-Tramway T4 progresses
In the Paris region, the new branch of the T4 tram-train is entering its construction phase. The first rail has been laid. A new step for this project which conception started in 2012, and which construction began in January 2017. Entering in service is expected at the end of 2019.
The construction phase begins in 2017
SYSTRA has entered the construction phase in January 2017 : the first sections of rail were laid at Montfermeil, place Notre-Dame des Anges. The works continue in March 2017 on the new track, with a team of six people to provide assistance to the project owner, the STIF.
Compared with the current T4 line between Bondy and Aulnay-sous-Bois, the particular feature of this project is its interconnection with the National Rail Network. This new extension branches off at Gargan station, and extends over a distance of 6.5km, passing through four municipalities: Les Pavillons-sous-Bois, Livry-Gargan, Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil.
Putting the Group’s skills into action
In parallel with the laying of these first rail sections, preliminary works to improve the new line’s infrastructure continue at Clichy-sous-Bois and Montfermeil, and are being started in the municipality of Livry-Gargan. To address difficulties of delays in the release of the land, the project teams were able to rely on the expertise of land and property specialist, SYSTRA Foncier, whose involvement was appreciated by the STIF. The objective of commissioning and entering service is at the end of 2019.

The start of a new transport service
The new T4 branch project is part of a transport policy of improvements to the network in the Paris metropolitan area and East of the Seine-Saint-Denis, which aims to open up under-served areas and to encourage their populations to use public transport. This new T4 branch will allow a direct connection between Montfermeil and Bondy, with a connection to the RER E Line.
The project has important interfaces with a number of urban and transport projects including the Grand Paris Express station at Clichy-Montfermeil (Line 16), Bondy station (Line 15), the T11 Express station (formerly called “Tangentielle Nord” [Northern Tangent]) on the Noisy-le-Sec site, the T-Zen 3 BRT at Gargan station, and the Urban Renewal Project for the Clichy-Montfermeil plateau area.
